2014: The response to the Radio George
Christmas Channels over the past couple of years has been simply
remarkable. Many listeners have asked for "more" without specifying
any particular types of Christmas music. I've been looking for some
"new" Christmas music that would be a little different and still fit
in with the traditional stylings that have been so popular.
How do you search for such music? A BIG
flea market type of place can sometimes present ideas, or in the best
case scenario, the music itself. In such a case, the music is on an
old vinyl LP or CD that someone just didn't want anymore. To make a
long story short, I sensed that the American Classics Marketplace,
which I had spotted on a trip to Colorado Springs, might be a good
candidate for a search and visited there in September of 2014.
JACKPOT! I found a large number of vinyl
LPs and CDs with "different" Christmas music. I grabbed them all and
brought them to the Radio George studios to audition and then
electronically "clean up" clicks and scratches and pops as needed.
Many of the selections were lousy or fell into the "songs that no one
ever heard of" category, fillers to complete an album. But there were
enough good ones to put together some distinctive new channels
listeners have asked for--and this is one of them. It's certainly not
a collection you would expect to hear-a mixture of Christmas and...Las
Vegas. It's different and it's FUN.
